Facility information:
• LSD: SW 31 – 77 – 05 W6M (North of Grande Prairie off Highway 2)
• Dedicated industrial and oilfield waste disposal cell
• Suitable for solid, non-hazardous non-dangerous industrial and oilfield waste
• Municipal landfill serving the Town of Spirit River, the Village of Rycroft, the MD of Spirit River, Saddle Hills County and Birch Hills County

 

Common waste streams accepted include:

• Contaminated soil generated from flare pits, ecology pits, evaporation ponds, well sites
• Solid drill cuttings from site investigation and oil and gas exploration and development
• Tank and treater bottoms
• Hydrocarbon, salt or other non-hazardous contaminated soils
• Fly ash
• Catalyst, desiccant, molecular sieve from natural gas processing operations
• Asbestos waste

 

All disposal projects are subject to a waste approval procedure involving an evaluation of the physical and chemical characteristics of the waste. Generators will be required to provide representative third-party analysis for each new waste stream and for each new location.

 

Design information
The design of the cell complies with the criteria outlined in the latest draft of the Standards for Landfills in Alberta. There are no limits on the levels of total petroleum hydrocarbons or chlorides for disposal in the cell pursuant to the design criteria from the EUB’s ID 99-04. The industrial and oilfield waste disposal cell is designed with:

 

• A composite liner system: 1.0 meter thick compacted clay liner overlain by a 60-mil high density polyethylene liner
• A leachate collection and removal system (perforated pipe, removal sump and drainage media)
